Aims of WIRES

Across Australia our native wildlife is under threat from loss of habitat, introduced animals and toxic chemicals.

And that's why WIRES is here - rescuing animals in distress and by using education, research and the media we are helping to turn the tide and give our wildlife another chance.

WIRES aims to:

rescue and care for native wildlife unable to fend for itself, with at all times the best interests of the animals placed first and with the objective of returning them to the wild.
informing the public about the habitat requirements for native wildlife and its maintenance and re–establishment.
fostering and promoting an awareness in the community and in government of the dangers to, and the need to protect, native wildlife.
acting and ⁄ or advising on the problems of unwanted wildlife and its removal bearing in mind the best interests of the animal.
encouraging and undertaking research pertinent to WIRES objectives.

WIRES believes the protection of wild animals is a community responsibility because it is human actions directly or indirectly that cause most of the injuries.

Everything we do, no matter how large or small, affects the well being of our wildlife, and all too often the animals come off second best.
